Softcast

Softcast

Recently, I started investigating new methods: casting forms and textures of fabrics in handmade paper that I process and dye with natural dyes.  By using soft molds I am hardening a moment of memory on cloth that has been created by repetitive handworks.  I am honoring old skilled crafts such as shibori and the labor that goes into them.

I have been exploring the technique, “nagashikomi”  in order to cast the textures of clothing.  This series is about human connection.  Instead of fighting, I like to see that people are holding hands.  Clothing without human bodies can show gestures, personalities, and what is lost.
